Mafia – An Italian City Stands Up

Mafia activity is still very significant in Italy, particularly in the South, where most businesses are forced to pay racket. Now in a combined effort, all the little shops and businesses of the town of Ercolano have decided to stand up to organised crime and stop paying the common “protecting fee” to the local Mafia.

Brightnews! The Mafia is a plight to the country, making the life and economic development much harder and even sometimes infects national politics. Therefore it is excellent news that some brave citizens decided to give politicians an example and emancipated themselves from the racket. It’s risky but if the government uses this exceptionally initiative and protects the city from likely revenge, Ercolano could set an example for the whole region, that would be even better news.
